Water Formula World Championships in Klaipėda Port: please familiarise yourself with the scheme and regulations

On 12-13 August, the Klaipėda Harbour Shipping Canal hosts a round of the Water Formula World Championship. This will be the first time such a competition will be held in the port, so those who intend to watch the event live at the Cruise Ship Terminal or in Smiltyne, as well as those who have their own vessels, are kindly requested to familiarize themselves with the competition scheme and the regulations of navigation in the harbour area.

"I don't know to what extent it is visible to the naked eye, but the Port of Klaipėda is changing, it has ambitions to become not only a high-quality, efficient, safe, environmentally friendly port, but also one that serves society through various social activities. One of the latest projects, which seemed impossible only a few years ago, is the F2 Water Formula World Championship stage in the harbour water area. We are walking on the edge of support and condemnation, but we sincerely believe that this new experience will give us the opportunity to write a line of people's satisfaction in the loading statistics, and if the Lithuanian representative wins, to achieve not only the biggest ship loaded, but also a champion's medal. We would like to ask for everyone's support, understanding, and careful familiarisation with the possibilities of shipping during the competition. Emotions and the global awareness of Klaipėda Port are guaranteed", said Algis Latakas, Director General of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority.

On 12-13 August, police and border guard vessels will be patrolling the estuary of the Danube River in the Northern Cape, the Castle Port at the Cruise Ship Terminal and the shipping channel on both sides of the track to prevent unauthorised vessels from entering the track area. On 12 August, those with their own vessels will be able to enter and move around the harbour until 11 am, from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 8 pm until 11 pm on 13 August. On Sunday, traffic will be available as on the previous day: until 11:00, from 14:00 to 16:00 and from 20:00. Mooring and anchoring of vessels in the harbour area will also not be possible in the course area during training and competition.

There are several ways to watch the competition and support the athletes: by watching the broadcast on lrt.lt portal or LRT TV, by buying a ticket and sitting in the grandstand or VIP area, and free of charge in certain areas of the Cruise Ship Terminal and Smiltyne. Spectators are also asked to consider their choice of venue for watching the event and, if necessary, the time needed to make the ferry crossing to either side.

Due to the expected high and instantaneous passenger traffic on 12-13 August, AB Smiltynės perkėla will organise the operation of two ferries at the Northern Cape (Senoji perkėla, Danės g. 1): the ferry "Baltija" will come to the assistance of ferry "Nida". The ferries will run according to the normal schedule every 30 minutes. In case of necessity, AB Smiltynės perkėla plans to operate without a schedule: the service will be more frequent than scheduled.

Please note that during the qualification and competition events, ferry traffic will be suspended from 17:00 to 19:00 on 12-13 August.

Information about changes to the ferry timetable can be found in the yellow bar on the AB Smiltynės perkėla website or mobile app. Ferries will operate normally at the new ferry terminal (Nemuno g. 8) and the event will not affect ferry operations.

12-13 August from 17:00 to 19:00. The Port Authority's Vessel Traffic Service will restrict the movement of cargo vessels in the harbour area.
