In less than a month, on 3 December, the M1 Music Awards at Kaunas Žalgiris Arena will surprise the audience with unprecedented joint performances of famous artists and bands, the stage will be filled with new colours of the most popular hits, and new, specially created songs will probably become hits. One of the premieres debuts on M1 today. Petunia, who has joined forces with Tautumeitas, the Latvian Eurovision representative this year, presents the joint song "Tamsią nakt".
"I've had this idea since the beginning of the year when I saw them in the Eurovision Song Contest. The music, the energy of these girls resonated. "The style of Tautumeitas is very similar to mine, and we probably share similar values," says Petunia.
The Creative House ELITAZ, which creates the M1 Music Awards programme, knew nothing about Petunia's desire to collaborate with musicians from the neighbouring country, but the idea arose when considering how to bring together Lithuanian and Latvian stage stars for one performance.
"Our tastes and artistic vision were a perfect match, both Petunia and we know how to creatively translate traditional folk music into contemporary music. This synergy has become a fun mutual collaboration", says the members of Tautumeitas.
This is how the song "Tamsią nakt" was born, which will be performed live for the first time during the awards event.
"The title of the song is a phrase often found in Latvian and Lithuanian folklore, with symbolic and mythical roots. We have rewritten the story to reflect the long winter nights in the northern regions and the emergence of light penetrating the darkness. The main message is one of courage and not being afraid of the dark, and the chorus emphasises "I am not afraid of the dark". That courage is rewarded with a beautiful, wide wave of light that penetrates and enchants," the Latvians describe the song's meaning.
Both the creative process and the recording of the song were done remotely. "The members of Tautumeitas also talk about one memorable moment.
It was magical. While we were working on the song, suddenly the choir was rehearsing in the next room and we heard "Tumša nakte, zaļā zāle" - one of the most beloved Latvian folk songs. It was at that moment, when we were developing the motif "I am not afraid of the dark", that the old tradition seemed to speak directly to our creative process - it was a truly memorable and inspiring experience," the group recalls.
The song "Tamsią nakt" will be available from today on M1 radio station, and for the first time Petunija and Tautumeitas will perform it live on December 3, at Kaunas Žalgiris Arena. A spectacular show with the contemporary dance theatre "Aura" is also being prepared for the presentation of the song, but the artists are not revealing more details.
"It will be like a kind of a performance, which will impressively combine elements of both Latvian and Lithuanian culture and a very modern, unconventional sound," Petunija and Tautumeitas intrigue.
This is one of the revealed surprises of the upcoming M1 Music Awards. It's no secret that two Lithuanian superstars, Donatas Montvydas and Justinas Jarutis, will perform another spectacular joint performance. Both are renowned for the quality of their music and their uncompromising attention to detail, so what and how the new duo will perform on stage will be remembered for a long time.
Other famous names that have been announced so far are Beissoul & Einius, Gabrielė Vilkickytė, Džordana Butkutė, Despotin Fam, Žemaitukai, Gabrielius Vagelis, Giedrė, Šeškės, and the duo Abor & Tynna, who represented Germany at Eurovision this year. And that's not all.
