F2 Water Formula World Championship returns to Klaipėda - more Lithuanians to join

This year, on 16-17 August, the international sporting event - the F2 World Championships - will once again be making waves at the Klaipėda Cruise Terminal, on the shipping channel and on GO3 airwaves. The best water formula racing drivers will once again return to the port city, where they will once again entertain citizens, visitors and millions of spectators around the world with a huge dose of adrenaline and thrilling racing.

"It was unexpected to many that it was possible to organise such a high level event in our city - and in a relatively short period of time - with the interest of sports enthusiasts from around the world. Thousands of people - families and friends, Klaipėda residents and visitors - flocked to the Cruise Ship Terminal to see the powerful race cars traversing the waters at high speed and to feel the adrenaline rush of the excitement. I am grateful to the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority for their willingness to take up the challenge and organise the race in the port's shipping channel. The Water Formula World Championship has definitely entered the history of Klaipėda as a significant event in the life of the city. We need to make the most of the potential we have and strive for more events in and on the water. This will attract new interesting initiatives, provide more opportunities for the port city's entrepreneurs, and allow residents to see even more of the advantages of living in the port city", - says Klaipėda Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus.

Edgaras Riabko, one of the organisers of the event, a water formula pilot and Lithuania's representative in the championship, is also happy about the news of this championship - along with the F2 category pilots, there will be F4 cars competing in their category, among which there will be four more Lithuanians competing.

Last summer, for the first time in history, the shipping channel of the port of Klaipėda experienced what it is like to have waves being lifted by a powerful water formula capable of speeds of up to 200 km/h. So this year, the Port of Klaipėda will face even greater challenges, with more than twenty professionals from all over the world competing in the championship.

ELITAZ, the creative house that together with F2 United has been organising the championship for several years now, which last year was watched by more than 40 million spectators worldwide, is also providing special areas for spectators. For those who want to watch the competition from the best seats, there will be special grandstands and exclusive VIP experience boxes.
