LNK Challenge: New Hit premiere will see well-known performers compete for 20 grand and the title of best hit

This Saturday, a new project - "LNK Challenge: New Hit" - will start on LNK TV, where for the first time in the history of television, songwriters, not performers, will appear on stage. The 64 songwriters will present their own compositions and aim to turn them into radio chart-topping hits, and win the EUR 20 000 prize provided by LNK and LATGA.

The producers of the project, the creative house ELITAZ, have not only brought together two production teams for this project, where Faustas Venckus and Giedrė Kilčiauskienė will fight against Stano and Deivydas Zvonkas, but also the four biggest radio stations, whose experts will have an exclusive opportunity to send their favourite song directly to their airwaves and to the semi-finals of the project.

"We want a new hit. We're always short of new songs on the radio to play between commercials. And I hope that at least one song in each show will be one that will stick in my ears and that I will want to play on my airwaves," says Saulius Žvirgždas, M1 radio expert and presenter.

"I've come to fall in love and find new songs that I can play consistently, both in my personal playlist and on ZIP FM," says Jekaterina Zibereva, ZIP FM radio expert and presenter.

"It's hard to say in one sentence how you realise that a song can be a hit. It has to be the whole: melody, voice, lyrics and something that hooks. I call it simple: either it sticks or it doesn't", says Radio Centre expert and presenter Simas Stankus about the search for a new hit.

Meanwhile, Marius Berenis, an expert and presenter at the Lietus radio station, is convinced that it is not so easy to create a real hit: "Sometimes a good song is spoiled by the image, and sometimes a good song is improved by the image. But in this project, we have to look away from what's happening on stage and listen only to the song. We need to understand whether it's just filler that you can easily switch to and forget about, or a track that once you hear it, you want to find it again and listen to it on the internet".

The first episode of the project promises many surprises. Not only unheard of music makers, but also well-known performers will take to the stage. One of them is Tadas Rimgaila, an event host, dancer, participant and performer in several music and dance projects.

"I feel anxious in my heart. And a very big one. You've seen that video of Robert Deniro coming up and asking what I'm doing here. I feel the same way. I'm not some kind of composer or a big mega creator. Maybe more of a folk artist. I don't know if I'm doing something good and interesting here, or if anybody needs it. What am I trying to prove here, I'm 41 years old, I'm going through a mid-life crisis", Tadas Rimgaila laughs before he goes on stage.

But the song he comes to the project with is very special to him: 'I am in a very pleasant phase of my life. I have a wonderful wife and a fantastic son. I have a fantastic son and a fantastic son with a wonderful son and a wonderful son with a wonderful son. I used to think that I needed to prove something to somebody, but now I don't feel that anymore. Most of all, I want my son to hear and see this song."

In the first edition, 8 creators will take to the stage. The four songs that will stay in the project and make it to the next stage, and get the chance to be developed with one of the production teams, will be decided by the studio audience. How will Tado Rimgayla's track from his upcoming album fare - will be available this Saturday, 19:30 on LNK.
